Father's Day Mini Heart-shaped Sugar Cookies

My daughter asked her beloved father what she should make him for fathers day. He said "cookies" so heartshaped, glazed sugar cookies for the win.

These goodies were inspired by the recipe we found on desertfortwo.com.

The recipe is designed to produce only one dozen cookies. In our case, they made 45 mini cookies.

What you will need:

- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Method:

In a mixer or by hand in a medium bowl, cream the sugar and butter. Once the mixture is light and fluffy, add the egg yolk and extracts.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add and mix these dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

It is time to roll out the cookie dough. Place the dough on the counter and roll it into a sheet 1/2 inch thick. You will need some extra flour to ensure that the dough does not stick to the counter or your rolling pin. Then, use your cookie cutter to cut out your soon-to-be-delicious goodies.

Place the cut out cookies onto a tray, preferably with parchment, and bake for 12 minutes. Timing may vary with different sizes and shapes of the dough. A good way to tell that it is finished is to wait for the edge of the cookies to turn a light brown.

Let the cookies cool and enjoy!
